| Why a Ham License? | |||||
| Why a license? The FCC, Federal Communications Commission, regulates transmission of all radio, TV, broadband, telephone & other signals so that more people can share the airwaves & their benefits without interfering with each other. The ARRL, Amateur Radio Relay League, controls licensing of amateur radio by applying test requirements for amateur radio user licenses. The tests require understanding the technology to protect the safety of users & others nearby. Tests also serve to educate users about different types of radios & communications. A very important use of tests is proper manners or etiquette when using radios so that people of all ages can enjoy sharing the airwaves without being offended. Remember; 'a Scout is Friendly, Courteous, Kind . . . ' The tests help train users in the special language or vocabulary that all amateur radio uses world-wide. |
